WHY ARE WE BOYCOTTING?

We, as dedicated supporters of MADEIN and advocates for justice and artist protection, feel compelled to raise our voices. In light of growing concerns regarding the treatment and well-being of the members of MADEIN, we are urging 143 Entertainment to prioritize their safety, dignity, and rights. For those unfamiliar, 143 Entertainment has recently come under public scrutiny due to troubling allegations and concerns raised by former and current associates. One of the most notable events occurred when former artist Oh Gaeun spoke out about alleged inappropriate conduct by the company’s CEO. Gaeun’s departure from the company soon after her statement has led to widespread concern among fans and advocates. In solidarity with Gaeun and in pursuit of transparency and accountability, many have since chosen to boycott the company, hoping to amplify calls for a safer and more ethical environment for all artists under their management.Despite multiple public inquiries and concern for the well-being of the remaining artists—especially Mashiro, who has become a focal point of fan concern—143 Entertainment has yet to offer clear or reassuring communication regarding their safety and care. Our call for action stems not only from love for the artists, but from a deep sense of responsibility to confront an environment that has become impossible to ignore. The recent press conference held on April 29, 2025, revealed the gravity of what has been happening behind the scenes—and confirmed our worst fears.Former MADEIN member Oh Gaeun has now filed a criminal complaint against 143 Entertainment’s CEO, Lee Yong-hak (also known as Digital Masta), for repeated acts of sexual harassment, emotional coercion, and manipulation. These are not vague or unsubstantiated claims. They are supported by legal filings, direct testimony from Gaeun’s family and legal counsel, and a growing trail of documentation dating back to her time as a minor trainee.According to statements given during the press conference, Gaeun was subjected to escalating forms of inappropriate physical contact from Lee Yong-hak under the guise of “mentorship” and “counseling.” When she eventually voiced her discomfort and said, clearly, “please stop touching my body,” she was met with retaliation. Work opportunities were withdrawn, her communications were monitored and restricted, and she was systematically pushed out of MADEIN against her will. Her mother shared heartbreaking accounts of how their trust was manipulated, how the company used fear and guilt to keep them silent, and how Gaeun was kept under constant surveillance while isolated from friends and even instructors. Every step of the way, the company continued to protect the abuser rather than the victim. When efforts were made to resolve the matter quietly, 143 Entertainment instead pressured Gaeun to publicly support a false narrative—going so far as to ask her to “like” a company statement denying any wrongdoing. When she refused to comply, the company retaliated again by abruptly announcing her departure without notice or consent, while still holding her to a binding contract. Her dream of being an artist was taken from her—not by choice, but by force. This alone would be enough to justify public outrage. But it’s not an isolated case. In addition to Gaeun’s testimony, former employees have come forward with serious accusations of unpaid labor. Multiple staff and associates claim they went months without receiving their rightful wages while continuing to perform duties under promises and pressure. This not only raises concerns about financial mismanagement, but also suggests a culture of systemic exploitation and disregard for basic worker rights.Meanwhile, fans have raised ongoing concerns about the well-being of the remaining members of MADEIN—particularly Sakamoto Mashiro, who has been visibly absent and emotionally distressed in recent months. The company has failed to offer adequate updates on her condition, leaving fans anxious and in the dark.We are especially alarmed by the treatment of Nagomi, the youngest member of the group, who is still a minor. Despite her age, she has repeatedly been styled and presented in ways that are inappropriate and deeply uncomfortable to many observers. Whether through negligence or intentional choices, this reflects a serious lack of ethical standards and oversight in the way young artists are managed. These are not isolated incidents. They represent a pattern of harm, enabled and perpetuated by a company unwilling to protect its talent. Time and again, 143 Entertainment has chosen silence and image control over accountability and care. It has shown a shocking disregard for the well-being of both artists and employees alike.Let us be clear: this is not about “fan drama” or personal grievances. This is about an entertainment company that has failed in its most basic responsibilities. It’s about a CEO credibly accused of abusing his power. It’s about young women being used, manipulated, and discarded. And it’s about an industry that too often turns a blind eye.We are boycotting 143 Entertainment because we refuse to support a system that thrives on silence, fear, and exploitation. We will not fund or endorse a company that retaliates against whistleblowers, styles minors inappropriately, hides health-related absences, refuses to pay workers, or enables abusers. This boycott is not a trend—it is a moral stand.Until there is real accountability—until Lee Yong-hak is removed from power, until Gaeun is released from her contract, until unpaid workers are compensated and artist protections are implemented—we will not engage with or support anything under the 143 Entertainment label. We continue to stand in support of those seeking truth, transparency, and justice—especially Oh Gaeun, whose bravery ignited a conversation that cannot and must not be silenced.
Women in this industry deserve safety. Women in this industry deserve respect. Women in this industry deserve justice.
