WHY ARE WE BOYCOTTING?

We, as dedicated supporters of MADEIN and advocates for justice and artist protection, feel compelled to raise our voices. In light of growing concerns regarding the treatment and well-being of the members of MADEIN, we are urging 143 Entertainment to prioritize their safety, dignity, and rights.For those unfamiliar, 143 Entertainment has come under increasing public scrutiny due to troubling allegations, legal proceedings, and concerns raised by former and current associates, artists, staff, and fans.One of the most serious cases involves former MADEIN member Oh Gaeun, who has filed both a criminal complaint and a civil lawsuit against former 143 Entertainment CEO Lee Yonghak (also known as Digital Masta), accusing him of sexual assault, emotional coercion, manipulation, and inappropriate conduct that allegedly took place during her time as a trainee and member of MADEIN.The recent press conference held on April 29, 2025, revealed the gravity of the allegations and brought renewed attention to what Gaeun and her family say happened behind the scenes.According to statements made during the press conference, the victim was subjected to escalating forms of inappropriate physical contact from Lee Yonghak under the guise of “mentorship” and “counseling.” When she eventually expressed her discomfort and clearly told him to stop touching her, the alleged conduct did not end. Instead, she claims that she was subjected to retaliation, including the withdrawal of work opportunities, monitoring and restriction of her communications, and isolation from friends, colleagues, and instructors.Eventually, the victim was removed from MADEIN against her wishes, and the company publicly announced her departure without her consent.Her mother also spoke publicly about the situation, describing how the family’s trust was manipulated and how they were pressured into silence. She stated that the CEO monitored the victim’s communications, controlled aspects of her daily life, isolated her from people around her, and warned the family that speaking out could destroy her career.When attempts were made to resolve the situation privately, the company allegedly pressured the victim to support what she described as a false narrative denying wrongdoing. She was reportedly even asked to “like” a company statement rejecting the allegations. When she refused to comply, the company allegedly retaliated by announcing her departure from MADEIN without her consent, while continuing to insist that her exclusive contract remained in effect.The allegations have since resulted in legal proceedings. Gaeun filed a criminal complaint against Lee Yonghak and a separate civil lawsuit concerning her exclusive contract with 143 Entertainment.The case has raised serious concerns about the responsibility of entertainment companies to protect the artists placed under their care, particularly young artists who may be in vulnerable positions within a highly unequal power structure.The situation became even more concerning following a public statement by the Hanbit Media Labor Human Rights Center, which stated that Lee Yonghak remained under criminal investigation following Gaeun’s complaint and that the case had been forwarded to the prosecution.According to the organization, more than 900 individuals and 8 organizations submitted a petition calling for strict punishment, with supporters from 22 countries participating in the campaign.The organization also raised concerns regarding 143 Entertainment’s cooperation with the investigation, alleged unpaid wages involving former staff, and alleged failures concerning required business registration documentation during MADEIN’s activities.Meanwhile, Gaeun’s own legal battle has continued.On July 31, 2026, the Seoul Central District Court granted Gaeun’s request for a preliminary injunction suspending the effectiveness of her exclusive contract with 143 Entertainment.The court determined that Lee Yonghak’s alleged conduct was incompatible with the responsibilities of someone entrusted with protecting and supporting artists. The court also found insufficient evidence that 143 Entertainment intended to properly fulfill its management obligations toward Gaeun.As a result, the court determined that suspending the effectiveness of her contract was necessary while the main lawsuit proceeds.Gaeun’s main lawsuit seeking the complete termination of her exclusive contract remains ongoing.Meanwhile, fans have continued to express concern about the prolonged absence of Suhye and Yeseo.During 2025, the company initially attributed Suhye’s hiatus to “health reasons,” later changed the explanation to “personal reasons,” and subsequently removed that statement from its official channels. No comparable explanation was provided regarding Yeseo’s absence.On December 31, 2025, 143 Entertainment officially announced the suspension of Suhye and Yeseo’s activities as members of MADEIN.More recently, Korean media outlets have reported that both members are in discussions with the company regarding their departure from MADEIN. However, no final agreement has been officially announced, and 143 Entertainment has provided no clear public resolution regarding their future.There is also an important legal development concerning two MADEIN members.On June 17, 2026, the Seoul Central District Court ruled in favor of two MADEIN members who had sought to terminate their exclusive contracts with 143 Entertainment.The court ruling and media reports do not publicly identify the two members. However, based on the available timeline, the members are widely believed to be Suhye and Yeseo. Their identities have not been officially confirmed, and we therefore cannot state this as an established fact.The court determined that the relationship of trust between the two members and 143 Entertainment had been damaged to the point that continuing their exclusive contracts was no longer reasonable and that restoring that trust would be difficult.Although the two members were not themselves the direct victims of the alleged conduct involving Lee Yonghak, the court recognized that they could reasonably have experienced significant anxiety and concern that similar inappropriate conduct could happen to them.The court specifically characterized the CEO’s alleged conduct as “extremely inappropriate conduct that a representative should never engage in,” emphasizing that someone responsible for managing and protecting artists should never behave in such a manner.The court also recognized that the members could reasonably fear similar treatment and that this reaction was understandable given the circumstances.The ruling further addressed the damage caused to the members’ public image and reputation as a result of the controversy and extensive media coverage.143 Entertainment appealed the ruling on July 6, 2026, meaning that the decision is not yet final and the case will proceed before the Seoul High Court.These developments are especially significant because they show that concerns surrounding 143 Entertainment are not limited to a single individual or isolated allegation. The court itself found that the trust relationship between the members and the company had deteriorated to a point where continuing the exclusive contracts was no longer reasonable.We are also deeply concerned about the treatment of Nagomi, one of the group’s younger members, who has repeatedly been styled and presented in ways that many observers have considered inappropriate and deeply uncomfortable.Whether through negligence or intentional choices, these situations raise serious questions about the ethical standards and oversight applied to the management and protection of young artists.These are not concerns that should simply be dismissed as “fan drama.”They concern artist safety, workplace responsibility, contractual rights, transparency, and the obligation of an entertainment company to protect the people whose careers it manages.There are also continuing concerns regarding Lee Yonghak’s relationship with 143 Entertainment.According to publicly available corporate records, Lee Yonghak formally resigned as CEO of 143 Entertainment on May 8, 2025, and the company later appointed a new CEO.However, 143 Entertainment did not publicly announce his resignation until May 31, 2025, more than three weeks after the documented resignation.The announcement of his resignation was later removed from the company’s official channels, while Lee Yonghak continued to receive credits as Executive Producer and Head of Global Business on projects released after his resignation.Most importantly, his resignation as CEO did not mean that he completely separated himself from the company.In its ruling concerning the MADEIN members’ lawsuits, the Seoul Central District Court explicitly recognized that Lee Yonghak remains a major shareholder of 143 Entertainment and remains in a position to exercise direct or indirect influence over MADEIN’s activities and operations.The court stated:"Lee Yonghak, as a major shareholder of the company, remains in a position to exercise direct or indirect influence over the group’s activities and operations."This distinction is crucial.Lee Yonghak is no longer the CEO. A new CEO was appointed. However, he remains a major shareholder of 143 Entertainment and, according to the court itself, remains in a position to exercise direct or indirect influence over the company and its artists.His continued presence has raised even more questions.On August 1, 2026, social media posts and eyewitness accounts appeared to show Lee Yonghak accompanying iKON, one of 143 Entertainment’s boy groups, during activities in Japan.His reported presence alongside an active group under 143 Entertainment has further intensified questions about how far his involvement with the company actually extends despite his resignation as CEO.The issue is therefore not simply whether Lee Yonghak still holds the title of CEO.He does not.The issue is that resigning as CEO did not remove his ownership or his potential influence over the company.At the same time, Lee Yonghak continues to retain copyright ownership over MADEIN’s existing discography, raising additional concerns about the group’s creative independence and ability to move forward without his involvement.This creates further uncertainty regarding who will oversee and produce MADEIN’s future music and whether the members can genuinely have creative and professional independence while a former CEO who remains a major shareholder retains ownership rights over their existing work.These circumstances have led to growing international concern and continued calls for accountability.We are boycotting 143 Entertainment because we refuse to support a system that enables abuse, silences victims, retaliates against those who speak out, fails to provide transparency regarding artists’ futures, and does not adequately protect the young people under its management.This boycott is not simply about supporting one individual.It is about standing against a system that prioritizes corporate interests over the safety, dignity, and rights of artists.It is about demanding accountability when allegations of abuse are made.It is about demanding transparency when artists disappear from activities without adequate explanations.It is about demanding protection for young artists.And it is about recognizing that a change in CEO does not automatically mean a change in the underlying power structure when the former CEO remains a major shareholder and retains influence over the company.Until there is real accountability—until Lee Yonghak is permanently removed from ownership, management, production, and operational influence within 143 Entertainment,until Gaeun is completely released from her contract through the final court proceedings,until Suhye and Yeseo’s situation is transparently addressed and their safety and wishes are respected,until all artists under 143 Entertainment are guaranteed a safe working environment,and until meaningful protections and accountability mechanisms are implemented,we will not engage with or support anything under the 143 Entertainment label.The demands remain clear:• Lee Yonghak must be permanently removed from all ownership, management, production, and operational influence within 143 Entertainment.• Gaeun must be fully released from her exclusive contract and protected from further retaliation or defamation.• The criminal case against Lee Yonghak must proceed without unnecessary delay and be handled according to due process.• 143 Entertainment must be held accountable for any unlawful conduct established through investigations and court proceedings.• The company must provide transparent information regarding Suhye and Yeseo while respecting their safety, consent, and future career decisions.• All artists under the company must be guaranteed a safe working environment free from abuse, coercion, exploitation, and retaliation.• The company must demonstrate genuine transparency regarding its ownership, management structure, and the continued involvement of Lee Yonghak.Until meaningful accountability is achieved, the boycott will continue.We continue to stand in support of those seeking truth, transparency, and justice—especially Oh Gaeun, whose courage brought these issues to public attention and whose fight for justice must not be silenced.This is about justice.This is about truth.This is about accountability.And this is about ensuring that no young artist is ever forced to endure the same abuse, exploitation, or institutional failure again.We continue to stand in support of those seeking truth, transparency, and justice—especially Oh Gaeun, whose bravery ignited a conversation that cannot and must not be silenced.Women in this industry deserve safety. Women in this industry deserve respect.
